Screen Subtitling Systems Integrates Harmonic's Rhozet Video Transcoding Into Groundbreaking MediaTrans Subtitling Solution
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 2007--Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that its Rhozet(TM) Carbon Coder(TM) video transcoding solution has been selected by Screen Subtitling Systems, the leading provider of broadcast subtitling systems, for use in its Poliscript MediaTrans(R) solution to provide users with extensive format support and a streamlined workflow. The integration of Carbon Coder into the MediaTrans subtitling system will accelerate the post-production workflow by allowing users to bypass the non-linear editor (NLE), and transcode content directly with subtitles.
"Carbon Coder is a natural fit for our MediaTrans customers wanting to make their workflows more efficient," said John Birch, Strategic Partnerships Manager at Screen Subtitling Systems. "Carbon Coder also supports all of the major media formats our users need for a host of applications, such as broadcast, web, mobile and IPTV."
MediaTrans with the Carbon Coder Option supports burnt-in subtitles and Line 21 Closed Caption insertion directly into media files, as well as transcoding, watermarking, logo insertion or video scaling. For added flexibility, the MediaTrans Carbon Coder Option supports a wide range of media formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (H.264), H.263, SMPTE VC-1, Flash, DV25, DV50, DVCPro, DPS, DivX, JPEG2000, Windows Media and RealVideo.
"With over 30 years in the captioning and subtitling business, Screen Subtitling Systems has led the way in the digital subtitling market," said David Trescot, Vice President of the Rhozet Business Unit at Harmonic Inc. "Their selection of Carbon Coder for transcoding speaks to the versatility of our cost-effective and rapid transcoding technology for a wide range of applications including video-on-demand, streaming, mobile and media asset management."
Harmonic's Rhozet Carbon Coder is a universal transcoding application that facilitates the transfer of media between a variety of platforms, including acquisition, editing, playout, archive, the Internet and mobile devices. Carbon Coder can run as a stand-alone application or as part of a multi-node, fully-automated rendering farm. Carbon Coder provides high-performance, scalable and cost-effective transcoding for a broad range of business environments, from specialized studios to enterprise-scale installations.
