Encoders and DiviTrackIP(TM) Statistical Multiplexing

                     to Deliver More Video Content

Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that Boom TV's recently launched satellite direct-to-home (DTH) service in Romania is powered by a comprehensive Harmonic IP-based headend including the market leading DiviCom(R) encoders, DiviTrackIP(TM) distributed statistical multiplexing and NMX Digital Service Manager(TM). The scalable Harmonic solution gives Boom the bandwidth efficiency and flexibility needed to deliver an innovative, high quality and differentiated video service.

A new operator in Romania, Boom TV offers the country's 7.1 million households exciting new television services through several packages that include an extensive variety of local and international channels, as well as premium news, children's, sports and movie programming. Pay-per-view capabilities are also available as part of Boom's service. By utilizing the latest generation IP-based video compression and delivery technologies pioneered by Harmonic, Boom can put into place an infrastructure that easily scales as they add more channels and other personalized, interactive services such as personal video recording (PVR).

"Consumers in Romania are seeking more diverse television programming and interactive video services," said Adrian Velicescu, Vice President of Operations and Engineering for Boom TV. "We identified an opportunity to develop a more sophisticated service that would bring a range of new content and create a more compelling viewing experience by introducing advanced applications such as PVR. Harmonic was the ideal technology provider for the Boom TV infrastructure, providing a flexible IP-based headend solution that can be easily expanded as our service grows."

"Operators around the world increasingly value the benefits of an IP-centric architecture to deliver their video services," said Nimrod Ben-Natan, Vice President of Solutions and Strategy for Harmonic Inc. "Boom TV is leveraging the flexibility of the cost-effective Harmonic solution to not only provide competitive programming to subscribers but to offer an expanded range of channels with better picture quality and in a more efficient manner. At Harmonic, we are also focused on ensuring that our systems are scalable and reliable, and the advanced service management capabilities available with NMX make it possible for Boom to easily control their complete headend operation, add new channels to the multiplex or introduce additional value-added services."

The high quality, low bit-rate Harmonic encoders have already been deployed by Boom TV for multiple satellite transports. The highly efficient bit-rate allocation across multiple encoders in the DiviTrackIP distributed statistical multiplex further improves service carrying capacity, typically improving bandwidth utilization by 20 percent or more.
