Harmonic Showcases Industry-Leading Broadcast and On-Demand IPTV Solutions at TelcoTV 2006
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov 01, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- At TelcoTV 2006 booth #315, Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT), a leading provider of video headend solutions to telcos worldwide, will demonstrate its comprehensive and fully integrated range of broadcast and on-demand IP-based video solutions. An all-IP remote headend used to distribute aggregated content acquired via satellite will be featured. This solution includes the latest generation DiviCom(R) Electra(TM) MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders and the ProStream(TM) 1000 platform with ProCipher(TM) bulk descrambling capabilities. Harmonic will also showcase the Entone on-demand software for content ingest, real-time distributed intelligent asset management and high performance video streaming. Held from November 6-8 in Dallas, Texas, TelcoTV is a leading conference and expo dedicated to the growing IPTV market in the United States.
"Television is moving toward a more dynamic paradigm based on a greater variety of IP-based on-demand services and high definition TV," said Thierry Fautier, Director of Telco Solutions for Harmonic Inc. "Harmonic's high performance Electra encoders are enabling new business models by making HD and other advanced services truly possible in a DSL environment. The ProStream 1000 platform's density and scalability facilitate the cost-effective delivery of aggregated broadcast television content, simplifying the delivery of a wide range of programming. These solutions, combined with the Entone on-demand software suite, provide telco operators with an exceptional IP infrastructure for provisioning next generation TV services."
The new Electra 7000 high definition (HD) and Electra 5400 standard definition (SD) H.264 encoders, already selected by several telco and satellite operators around the world, enable dramatic reductions in the bit-rates required to deliver high quality video services, freeing up bandwidth to deliver more services per home. Beyond outstanding compression efficiency gains, these multi-service encoders allow operators to increase subscriber reach and introduce new services such as broadband-on-demand by delivering simultaneous video services at different bit-rates within the same one rack-unit (RU) platform.
The combination of the Electra encoders, Harmonic's satellite and terrestrial integrated receiver/decoders, the new ProStream 2000 H.264 splicer and the versatile ProStream 1000 stream processing platform together represents the industry's most dense and scalable remote IP headend solution. The ProStream 1000 is the world's first multi-functional 1-RU stream processing solution that can be configured for a variety of applications, including multiplexing, AES scrambling and bulk descrambling.
In addition, for on-demand services, the Entone StreamLiner(R) video server software and Armada(R) intelligent asset manager are preferred by IPTV operators in the United States and around the world. These distributed and scalable solutions facilitate the transition to personalized video services such as video-on-demand, network personal video recording (nPVR), time-shifted television and targeted advertisement insertion.
As a recognized industry visionary and market leader, Harmonic is also participating in the TelcoTV conference. Thierry Fautier will serve as a panelist in the "Beyond the MPEG-4 Hype: Where Do We Really Stand?" session on November 8th at 3:20 PM CST.
