SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2007--Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that six of its products have been honored for superior technical innovation and market leadership in Broadband Gear Report's (BGR) 2007 Diamond Technology Reviews. The DiviCom(R) Electra(TM) 7000 high definition (HD) MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoder received a perfect score of five diamonds, and is the first product from any industry vendor to receive this top rating since the introduction of the Diamond Technology Reviews in 2005. In addition, four Harmonic products were rated as outstanding solutions with a score of four diamonds: the Electra 5400 standard definition (SD) H.264 encoder, NSG(TM) 9000 universal edgeQAM, ProStream(TM) 1000 stream processing platform, and ProStream 2000 H.264 splicer. The Armada(R) intelligent asset manager, used to efficiently distribute on-demand assets, earned a score of three diamonds.

Judged by a panel of senior engineering executives at leading North American cable operators Bright House Networks, Charter Communications, Comcast Corporation, Cox Communications and Rogers Communications, BGR's Diamond Technology Reviews program is designed to provide an objective annual technology and product review for the broadband community.

"Our judges were extremely frank in their evaluations of all products entered, so the perfect five diamond review rating that the DiviCom Electra 7000 encoder received is very notable -- especially since it marks 'a first' in the history of the Diamond Technology Reviews," Laura Hamilton, editor-in-chief at BGR, said. "The judging panel was particularly impressed by the encoder's cutting-edge H.264 capabilities for HD streams so that more HD video can be moved in tight bandwidth networks."

"Harmonic's ongoing innovation and leadership in compression, edge, on-demand and access solutions for the cable market has been proven by our success as the solution provider of choice for many years at top tier MSOs in North America and around the world," said Nimrod Ben-Natan, Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy for Harmonic Inc. "The BGR Diamond Technology Reviews are a further industry confirmation of the strength of Harmonic's product line, and the innovative new products introduced in 2006. The addition of our latest generation NSG edgeQAM, the Electra H.264 encoders for HD and SD, the versatile ProStream 1000 video stream processing platform, ProStream 2000 H.264 splicer and Armada software has created a more complete video delivery solution for our customers. Harmonic is truly revolutionizing the video experience by enabling operators to deliver a better performing, higher quality and more advanced service offering to the viewer."

Harmonic's extensive range of digital video, edge and broadband access solutions offer service providers superior picture quality and bandwidth efficiency for next-generation broadcast and on-demand services. The industry-leading Electra HD and SD H.264 encoders have been selected by leading satellite, telco, cable and broadcast customers around the world since their introduction in the second half of 2006. The NSG 9000 edgeQAM scales to support up to 72 QAM channels in a compact two rack-unit platform that is DOCSIS 3.0 ready, while the ProStream family of products delivers the utmost in flexibility for a wide range of stream processing needs.
