    PWRLink(TM) 1310 DWDM Forward Path Transmitters Ideal for Cable
                         Network Segmentation

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2008--Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today expanded its PWRLink(TM) transmitter family with the introduction of 1310 nm dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) forward path transmitters that make it possible to deliver significantly more bandwidth to the home using the existing hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) cable network. Without adding new fiber, cable operators can use Harmonic's scalable DWDM transmitters to combine up to eight wavelengths to deliver traffic to segmented nodes.

Operators are faced with an increasing demand for downstream bandwidth in order to provision services such as more high definition (HD) television channels, video-on-demand (VOD), high-speed Internet and gaming, as well as upstream bandwidth used for user-generated content. To increase bandwidth available per subscriber, nodes are often segmented to reduce the number of homes passed. However, this results in more nodes per service area, and typically the cable operator needs to deploy additional fiber to serve these nodes, which is extremely expensive. Harmonic's new DWDM solution eliminates this need for additional fiber. Using the PWRLink transmitters, multiple wavelengths can be combined onto a single fiber for forward transmission up to 30 kilometers.
