ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2007--Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that ComSpan Communications, a telecommunications service provider in Oregon, has deployed Harmonic's fiber to the premises (FTTP) video overlay and IP transport solutions for its Triple Play Communications Network. Using the Harmonic solutions, which include MAXLink(TM) transmitters and amplifiers as well as FLXLink(TM) network interface units (NIU), ComSpan can offer more bandwidth to the home for video, voice and data services. ComSpan Communications is part of the LTS Group of Companies, a group which provides a full range of services in the telecommunications, utilities and industrial sectors.
Harmonic's FTTP solution is a RF video overlay system for a passive optical network (PON) architecture that encompasses broadcast transmitters, optical amplifiers and a range of optical passive components. Harmonic's FLXLink 1-Gbps and T1 NIUs are also utilized to distribute IP services across the network using the same fiber. The reliable solution supports dedicated and higher capacity transport for the expansion of video, voice and data services to ComSpan Communications' subscribers.
"With this implementation we can offer higher-speed Internet, voice and an expanded portfolio of video channels to customers in rural communities where broadband access is not otherwise readily available," said Todd Richard, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, LTS Group of Companies. "Harmonic's high performance RF overlay and IP transport solutions allow us to use a fiber-based transport architecture to improve bandwidth capacity for these advanced services."
"Harmonic is focused on working with operators around the world to generate new revenues and enhance their service offerings," said Wayne Cousineau, Sales Director, North American Telco at Harmonic Inc. "Our broadband access solutions, which include FTTP, HFC and IP-based transport systems, offer higher reliability and performance for a variety of video, voice and data applications. The deployment at ComSpan Communications is an example of how regional telco operators can utilize a RF overlay and our FLXLink IP-based transport solutions to deliver a high quality triple play service."
Harmonic's full range of flexible fiber-based transmission solutions also includes PWRBlazer(TM) nodes, analog/digital return path and scalable DWDM digital transport systems. Using advanced technology that leverages the operator's existing outside plant and minimizes operating costs, Harmonic's broadband network solutions deliver a wide range of residential and business services for leading operators around the world.
